Owner / Designer
Born on the Gold Coast and raised in Noosa, Qld, Zak grew up surfing the idyllic waves of Noosa Heads. Surrounded by the surf industry, Zak learned at a young age the power brands can have when they connect with the spirit and lifestyle of their audience.
After high school, Zak moved straight to Brisbane to study a Bachelor of Fine Art, Majoring in Interactive & Visual Design and Advertising at Queensland University of Technology. It was here that he discovered his love for graphic design and further discovered the effect design could have on people.
While completing his final semester at University, Zak started interning at Analogue Digital Agency, where he subsequently started working as a graphic designer for the next two and a half years. In this time, Zak cut his teeth working long hours on projects such as The Design Conference, Analogue Gallery, First Coat Festival and many more.
At the start of 2018, Zak decided it was time to venture out and start his practice, Southgate Studio. This change would allow Zak to grow in new ways, expanding his philosophy and approach to design. Zak's keen passion for typography, graphic design, brand and identity informs the base interest of his practice. As much as anything, Southgate Studio can be seen as a mission of self-discovery, both personally and professionally.
